Egg production is an important sector in the livestock industry in Vietnam and the world.

GLOBAL EGG PRODUCTION CONTINUES TO GROW

Over the past years, global egg production has witnessed continuous growth, with a notable increase of 24% in ten years (from 2008 to 2018), according to data from FAO. Worldwide egg production peaked in 2020 at 1.65 trillion produced eggs.

The global egg market grew from $248.49 billion in 2022 to $270.08 billion in 2023 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.7%. The egg market is expected to grow to $374.89 billion in 2027 at a CAGR of 8.5%. The Asia-Pacific was the largest region in the egg market in 2022.

EGG PRODUCTION IS GROWING RAPIDLY IN VIETNAM

According to data from the Department of Livestock Production (MARD), in the period from 2018 – 2022, the average growth rate of poultry and waterfowl is 6.3%/year. Vietnam’s total poultry in 2022 will reach over 500 million, of which layer accounts for about 23%. Vietnam’s poultry egg output in 2022 will reach nearly 17.6 billion eggs, of which chicken eggs account for 61.75%, duck eggs account for 38.25%.

In the first quarter of 2023, poultry farming in Vietnam develops stably. The poultry herd is estimated at about 551.4 million, growing by 2.4%; Egg production increases by about 4.5% over the same period in 2022. On average, the growth rate of Vietnam’s egg production in the past 10 years has reached 9.33%, the highest increase among all types of products produced in the livestock industry.

According to the Department of Livestock Production (MARD), currently, on average, a Vietnamese person consumes about 170-179 eggs/person/year. In the near future, the Department of Livestock Production (MARD) plans to develop Vietnam’s egg industry in the direction of production to meet domestic demand and export to the world. Support and promote communication activities, develop programs to stimulate egg consumption, and expand egg consumption markets. This helps the egg industry have a basis for sustainable development in the future.
