One Health Forum at Vietstock 2026: Advancing Sustainable Livestock Development

The current landscape and development goals of the livestock sector in the new context 

According to the 2025 Industry Overview Report by the Department of Animal Health and Production, Vietnam’s livestock sector maintained a robust average annual growth rate of 5-6% from 2020 to 2024. This achievement underscores the sector’s immense potential and internal resilience, reaffirming its vital role as a core pillar of the national agricultural economy.

However, as assessed by the Department, the development of the livestock and veterinary sector is facing mounting pressures from “natural disasters, disease outbreaks, green transition, emission reduction targets, and global integration.” Faced with these ecological risks and the global supply chain demands, traditional livestock management approaches are no longer sufficient.

To overcome these barriers and escalate Vietnam’s livestock industry into the ranks of advanced nations, competing solely on production volume is no longer a viable strategy. This is particularly true as international markets impose increasingly rigid requirements for sustainability standards, biosecurity, and traceability.

In this context, the Department of Animal Health and Production has established a strategic objective to “transform the livestock industry into a modernised, sustainable, and highly competitive techno-economic industry, ranking among the leading nations in the region, while satisfying stringent standards for both domestic and export markets.”

To realise this objective, the One Health approach has become an increasingly vital strategic framework. According to the definition developed by the One Health High-Level Expert Panel (OHHLEP) and supported by FAO, UNEP, WHO, and WOAH, One Health aims to sustainably balance and optimise the health of three core pillars: people, animals, and ecosystems.

Unlike the traditional disease prevention model, the One Health approach represents a paradigm shift from reactive responses to proactive prevention. This is driven by interdisciplinary collaboration (encompassing the livestock, veterinary, public health, and environmental sectors) spanning from the local to the national level. It is a strategy designed to actively prevent, predict, detect, and respond to health threats at the human–animal–plant–environment interface.

For Vietnam, the One Health approach holds profound significance given the realities of intensive farming, disease outbreaks, zoonotic risks, antimicrobial resistance, and pressures from export markets. Vietnam has already issued the “One Health Partnership Framework for Zoonotic Diseases” (2021–2025). Moving forward, optimising inter-sectoral implementation will be the key to solving current bottlenecks and achieving the resilient and sustainable livestock industry.

One Health Forum – Solutions for sustainable livestock production

Building on the resounding success of the Biosecurity Asia Conference at Vietstock 2024 and the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Forum at Vietstock 2025, Informa Markets is proud to host the One Health Forum at Vietstock 2026.

The One Health Forum will take place on 22 October 2026, at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC), under the theme “One Health Solutions for Sustainable Livestock Production”. Given the integration trends of the domestic market and international pressures, the forum acts as a cross-sectoral nexus emphasising comprehensive sustainability. Through a series of keynote presentations and technical panel discussions, the forum anticipates connecting with businesses eager to integrate One Health principles into their operational strategies at Vietstock 2026.
