  10/07/2023

Swine and poultry farming in the first 6 months of 2023 has developed stably, and epidemics are under control. Join Vietstock to update the livestock industry market information in Vietnam in the first 6 months of 2023.

Vietnam’s livestock industry develops stably

According to the General Statistics Office, livestock and poultry production in the first six months of 2023 has developed stably, and epidemics have been controlled. However, farmers still need to closely monitor the market situation, the authorities provide timely information, control the situation of livestock in the locality. Breeders should not increase their herd massively, leading to an oversupply situation and a deep drop in selling prices, causing losses to farmers.

By June 22, 2023, the whole country no longer had blue ear disease and foot-and-mouth disease; avian influenza still in Quang Ngai; The outbreak of dermatomyositis was still in Thai Nguyen, Quang Ngai and African Swine Fever ( ASF) was still in 11 localities.

The authorities need to come up with directions and measures to remove short-term and long-term difficulties for the livestock industry to develop stably and in the long term. The authorities need to guide businesses and people on the conditions for biosafety breeding, disease control, and output product consumption; research and propose policies to support seed production and credit incentives for breeders.

Prices of feed ingredients will maintain a downward trend in the second half of 2023

The global economy has not yet recovered in the near future, and demand from China is forecast to remain lower than in the previous two years. In the USDA’s weekly Export Sales report released last week, US sales volume even dropped to negative levels, due to China canceling some previously purchased orders.

Swine market is active again recently

As Brazilian farmers prepare to harvest their second corn crop in the near future, production is forecast to hit record levels, making U.S. exports even less competitive.

Regarding the supply of raw materials, in contrast to La Nina appearing in the past 3 years, causing damage to the South American crop, the appearance of El Nino weather patterns is a positive signal of the global supply of agricultural products. The US crop is also in the early stages with rapid progress and concerns about the actual weather, so agricultural prices are likely to come under pressure in the second half of this year.

Mr. Pham Quang Anh said that “The price of animal feed ingredients in the world market is cooling down. Shipping costs to Vietnam are also decreasing due to the recent drop in crude oil prices. The cost of output products also shows signs of increasing. These are positive signals for the livestock industry in the second half of 2023, after two years of difficult times.”
